I am pleased to announce
that we at the city with our City council are
initiating the most comprehensive and sweeping urban renewal
effort
in recent history. The truth is that we have a
tremendous capacity that is underutilized, combined
with a demand for more services and products.
We are creating a Historic District
in our central core
along Main Street.
This will have a unique set of regulations that
protect our historical buildings and provide for
additional buildings that are vernacular in style
and historically relevant. There will be a cohesive
signage program that further identifies the district
and some regulations for business that
ensures a coordinated appeal. Thus
creating an enterprise zone that will foster and
protect investment in the area.
Out from the central core
a series of new sidewalks and walking trails are
planned that will make us again a walkable town.
This provides access, exercise and a sense of
community.
The town center will have
a new set of criteria for clutter and control. It
will be incumbent of all property owners to respect
the community at large and maintain standards
regarding their property. There will be incentives
and help to maintain an orderly, clean and safe
environment for all residents to enjoy. This is
critical to protecting new investment in our area.
