Code Compliance Program

Mission Statement-To enhance the quality of life in the City of Eureka, protect property values, preserve the public safety, and continually improve the way we do business as a local government.
Neighborhood Improvement- The City of Eureka is very serious about code enforcement. Uncorrected code violations, whether on your property or a neighbor’s, reduce property value and may contribute to the appearance of blight and neglect. Please do your part by abating all code violations present on your property. It is not just the right thing to do, it’s the law.

Our Goal
• Provide timely professional code enforcement to the citizens of Eureka.
• Help ensure neighborhoods are improved through code enforcement.
• Help protect property values.
• Achieve a healthier and safer environment for its citizens.

Eureka’s Code Enforcement Program

The City of Eureka has established a code enforcement program in an effort to ensure that the quality of life is maintained throughout our community. This program exists not to punish individual property owners, but to maintain the greater good of the community by gaining .compliance with adopted codes.
A complete copy of the code can be found elsewhere on this site.

The steps below identify the procedure used to carry out the goals of this program primarily directed toward the elimination of aesthetic and safety violations.

Step 1
The first step in this process is when a violation of codes is perceived by the Code Enforcement Officer or a complaint is filed. The Code Enforcement Officer will inspect the premises and determine if there is a code violation.

Step 2
The code enforcement action begins when the Code Enforcement Officer identifies a violation of City regulations. The property owner responsible for causing the violation will be notified of the problem. This notice will include the nature of the violation and the date when it should be corrected.

Step 3
If the City cannot gain compliance through cooperative efforts and negotiation, a ticket may be issued requiring you to appear in court. After hearing the testimony and reviewing the evidence, the court will issue a verdict. The City may pass a resolution to abate the problem and assess the cost to the property owner.
